In 2023, as part of the SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative) challenge, we embarked on an ambitious journey – “Increasing household recycling practice through the novel use of persuasive technologies.” This initiative recognised that traditional recycling methods weren’t enough to drive widespread behavior change. Instead, we needed technology-driven, personalised engagement to truly empower individuals, families, schools and businesses to recycle better, more often and more effectively.
Supported by government funding and industry collaboration, myecoapp was designed as an innovative response to a critical issue:
...recyclable waste still ends up in landfills

We realised that by combining artificial intelligence, gamification and behavioural psychology, we could remove confusion, boost motivation and create a fun, habit-forming experience around recycling.
